Using the hood cover is optional but it is recommended to help with evaporation, keeping out debris, and keeping the fish from jumping out! (Some of them like to try that!)

This is a duck's mouth outlet that you can use instead of the rainwater spout outlet if desired. This is based on preference on how you want the water to flow into the tank. 

For the bio cotton and bio-balls, we recommend rinsing these as necessary (use water from your aquarium as to not kill any of the good bacteria) and replacing every 3-6 months. For the active carbon, we would recommend replacing monthly.
